DesignBuildUTAH is excited to announce our upcoming “Living Systems: Greywater Reuse and Regenerative Design” workshop, designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to transform your landscape using sustainable greywater reuse.

This workshop is designed to be highly practical and engaging. We’ll start with an informative presentation on greywater basics and system design principles. Following this, you’ll dive into hands-on activities where you’ll observe a functioning greywater system and participate in its implementation.

What You’ll Learn:
This workshop will cover essential topics for anyone looking to implement sustainable water practices in their garden:
- Greywater Basics: Learn what greywater is, its importance in dryland environments, Utah’s greywater rules, and safe reuse methods. We’ll cover best practices and how to apply permaculture ethics and principles to water-wise systems.
- System Design Principles: Discover how permaculture ethics and principles guide the design of efficient and effective waterwise infrastructure.
- Hands-On Greywater System Implementation & Planting: Participants will observe the pre-installed (plumbed) greywater system at the workshop. Following this, they will learn the proper installation methods for the large irrigation boxes that receive drainage from the system and will gain practical experience in installing them. Additionally, there will be a hands-on activity involving preparing the soil and planting seeds of plants suitable for greywater. By experiencing the final stages of implementation and planting for sustainable gardening using greywater, participants will learn how water reuse connects to a tangible ecosystem.

What to Bring & Wear:
- Clothing: Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, as we will be working directly with soil and water.
- Shoes: We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor and gardening activities.
- Hat: Consider bringing a hat for sun protection.
- Gloves (Optional): Bring gardening gloves if you prefer.
A Note on Children’s Participation:
Children are welcome to join! However, please note that childcare is not provided. Attending parents or guardians are responsible for supervising their children and participating in the activities together throughout the workshop.
